Do you (or does a young person you know) dream of making rabbits appear, cards fly, and coins multiply? Well, you're in luck!
Learning magic is a fantastic way to ignite imagination, boost confidence, and impress friends (or maybe even your crush).
But where should young aspiring magicians begin their journey in the mystery arts? Fear not, for we have the answers!
For Kids Aged 6-12:
Calling all young wizards and sorceresses! If you're between the ages of 6 and 12, this advice is for you. Here are a few suggestions to get you started:
1. Magic Kits: Abracadabra in a Box
What's better than receiving a mysterious box filled with wonders? Magic kits are a fantastic way to dip your toes into the world of prestidigitation. They usually come with props, instructions, and a sprinkle of magic dust (not really, but we wish). From card and coin tricks to mind reading and stage magic, these kits will have you dazzling your friends and family in no time.
Some of my favourites include the Marvin's Magic Hat and the Marvin's Pocket Tricks Range
2. Online Tutorials: Spells at Your Fingertips
Thanks to the internet, learning magic has never been easier. There are countless online tutorials and videos that teach you the secrets of the trade. From YouTube channels dedicated to magic tricks to interactive websites, you'll find a treasure trove of knowledge at your fingertips. Just remember, with great power comes great responsibility (and a lot of practice).
The Edinburgh International Magic Festival also has a great FREE resource that you can access here: Virtual Magic School
For Teenagers Ages 13-17:
As you enter your teenage years, your magical abilities are bound to grow stronger and you're going to want to move on to bigger and better things. Here are a few options tailored just for you:
1. Magic Sets For Teens & Adults
Did you know: there are plenty of magic sets that are tailored for us big kids, too! They contain nicer props, more advanced secrets and with them; even more amazing magic!
Some of my favourites are:
- 60 Greatest Magic Tricks Set (this one is endorsed by the world-famous Magic Circle and has some great magic!)
- Marvin's Ultimate Magic Set (this has over 365 tricks included - with many of the classics in there, too!)
Who knows, you might discover your inner Houdini!
2. Books: The Spellbinding Chronicles
Books are a timeless source of knowledge, and the world of magic is no exception. There are plenty of spellbinding books out there that delve into everything from sleight of hand, to self working magic; magic with playing cards, magic with coins; mentalism all the way through to the art of illusion! From classic tomes by legendary magicians to modern guides written by contemporary conjurers, these books will unlock the secrets of the mystery arts and help you master the art of magic.
Remember, the key to becoming a great magician is practice, practice, and more practice. Don't be discouraged if your first attempts don't go as planned. Every magician has faced their fair share of mishaps. So, grab a deck of cards and let the magic begin!

3. Instant Downloads: Instant Magic
It's 2024. Books can be tough. If you'd prefer to learn from video, Instantly Downloadable tutorials are a popular medium to learn magic from. In our Instant Downloads Section you'll find every type of magic trick imaginable for you to learn.
Many of the classic books also have downloadable guides as an alternative such as Royal Road To Card Magic and 13 Steps To Mentalism. These complete guides cost a bit more (but are well worth it!). But you can also get standalone, individual tricks inexpensively as well as professional working magicians' repertoires such as Mark James' Super Charged Classics series!
